@jjhelmus is there a good way to report things like this other than pinging you directly?

Opening and issue in the anaconda-issues repository is the best option at this time for requesting a package update.

I'm looking at updating the rasterio package in defaults this week. Something should be available by the end of the week.

h10edf3e_1 contains the timeout fix and is build against hdf5 1.10.2. The conda-forge h9cd6fdc_11 build is against hdf5 1.10.3 perhaps that makes a different?

In defaults libnetcdf4 4.6.1 build 1 and above contain the timeout fix, build 0 has the original timeout.

@shoyer Agreed, there is no need for xarray.tests to be importable. Closing this issue, thanks for the quick clarification.

Just out of curiosity, what reason did you have for importing xarray.tests?

xarray.tests is listed as a import test in the conda-forge xarray-feedstock and was failing when I was doing a build. I do not think that import line needs to be present, tests does not seem to be in the public API of xarray. I'd be in favor of removing that line and keeping the test suite setup as-is.

pytest-dev/pytest#472 from BitBucket #472 seems to touch on this topic and references the note found at the end of the skip and xfail documentation:

You cannot use pytest.config.getvalue() in code imported before pytest’s argument parsing takes place. For example, conftest.py files are imported before command line parsing and thus config.getvalue() will not execute correctly.

I think those commits should cover all the comments, let me know if I missed any or if this need further refinement.

Yes, the two values in the missing_value attribute indicate two classes of data (not collected vs below minimum detectable threshold) and these data can be access by setting mask_and_scale=False but this also results in a valid data being returned without scaling which makes it less useful.

My question is how should xray should handle these cases? Either replace all instances of the values in missing_value with NaN or raise a error message stating that multiple missing_values are not supported similar? I'd be happy to create a PR implementing either case.
