This is handy for most cases, but not always. In the project I'm currently working on I'm displaying a list of DataArrays so I can browse through them and having them all fully expanded clutters the notebook quite a bit.

So I would like to introduce a new option to control this default state. Something we could set using the `xarray.set_options(...)` function. I can have a look at this myself and push a PR if there is some interest.

And before someone asks, a DataSet is not needed and wouldn't work in my case. The DataArrays have dimensions with the same name but different values in them.
