the fix is described in the RTD issue I linked to above, but with the (not really new by now) docs theme this is not necessary anymore: the theme does not put the version anywhere.

hmm... I can reproduce locally with: sh git checkout --force 835a53e62b1e5018faa323c649149e8294dd6af7 mamba env create --name v0.17.0 --file ci/requirements/doc.yml so the checkout seems to be the issue. Not sure how to fix that, though.
