In addition to @jhamman's comment, I am curious about these lines: python spi_all = dset['pr'][:,:,:] spi_lat = dset['lat'][:] spi_lon = dset['lon'][:]

That's the sort of code you need to write with netCDF4, but not with xarray. Consider just working directly with the dataset variables, i.e. dset.pr, dset.lat, etc.

@mada0007 - It looks like the calendar attribute in you dataset is malformed (days since 0001-01-01). As the exception says, it must be a valid calendar string that can include any of: ['standard', 'gregorian', 'proleptic_gregorian', 'noleap', 'julian', 'all_leap', '365_day', '366_day', '360_day']. You can try setting decode_times=False or fixing the calendar attribute before opening in xarray.
