DataArray.to_dataset() currently converts a DataArray into a Dataset with a single data variable.

This is fine, but we should add a dim argument so that x.to_dataset(dim='time') will instead create a Dataset with one data variable per time value.

Note: I have instead used DataArray.to_dataset() for simply creating a dataset with the one data array contained in it. This is consistent with pd.Series.to_frame.

I think it would still be useful to have Dataset.to_array, but once we implement mathematical operations for Datasets and display numerical values in Dataset.repr it will be less relevant.
