It would be helpful if you could test with our latest release candidate and report the output of xr.show_versions().

Does this crash when you create the computation, or when you evaluate it? e.g., result = ds.groupby_bins('O2_LINEAR', np.array([0,20,40,60,100])).max() # here? result.compute() # or here?

Monitoring memory usage can also be a good idea when using dask.
