It should be planned out thoughtfully. My view is that we should implement a new DataStore class to handle distributed datasets. This could live in the xarray backend, or it could be a standalone package. Such a data store could be the foundation of a powerful platform for big-climate-data analysis. (Or maybe I am thinking too ambitiously.) I think the upcoming aospy workshop will be an ideal opportunity to discuss this, since many of the people on this thread will be face-to-face. |
