I believe the netCDF file format itself supports numeric scalar types, 1D arrays of numbers and strings for attributes. For anything beyond that, you'll need to come up with your own encoding schema. One good choice (for representing coordinate systems) might be to use CF conventions, but I don't know any automated tools for handling this. |
