For the sake of cut & paste:

python ds = xray.Dataset( {'my_ones': (('dim1',), np.ones((100)))}, {'dim1':np.arange(0,100)}) ds ds['new_var'] = np.random.rand(100) / ds.my_ones ds ds.my_ones = np.random.rand(100) ds ds.attrs['my_ones'] = ds.my_ones ds

below will initially fail because ds.my_ones is just an array and has no attribute values:

python ds.my_ones.values = ds.my_ones del ds.my_ones ds ds.my_ones.values = ds.attrs['my_ones']
