FWIW I'm still not sure why the T_Xarray wasn't working!

Yeah I also couldn't figure it out.

There is still the problem that if you have a variable that is DataArray | Dataset and use it in polyval mypy will complain (that's why the ignore is in the tests) even though it should work.
